Musings on Tulane Students

I've been wondering alot recently about my experience as a tulane student.
about how other schools percieve the "average tulane student"
i have the bias: the rich kid whos more interested in getting drunk at a frat party than getting involved.

tulane students don't care. they don't get involved.

and really..they don't in my experience.
maybe its that the organizations arent organized enough...but then how would the crew team, rugby team, wtul, hullabaloo survive?

i mean there are kids involved THERE. boy are they ever. kids stay till like 7 in the morning working on that magazine, or work 2-4 shifts at the radio station.

but what about the literary society? why don't we have people with that sort of dedication? is it because the litsoc seems halfassed? im trying to make it better, but without help i can't do it on my own. are english majors and literary types really that uncaring and irresponsible and flaky?

is that whats cluttering my view?

are we just drunkards who really couldnt care less?

i mean...i'm not, but maybe its a problem with the department? with the kids that are english majors at tulane? i mean we have a creative writing emphasis, but not a major. does that mean that they arent interested in literary things that they don't -have- to go to? that the energy of the department isn't conducive to creativity or appreciation of it..or even applying oneself less than abstractly?

thats sad. i mean the kids i know usually like the readings, but i don't know if they'd necessarily do it on their own time. we get a great turn out for 1718 events, but there is little to no tulane involvement on the planning end and few show up for the event.
is it the recruiting? but then litsoc has been around forever and the kids who say their interested never show.
is it the publicity? english majors and those in writing and lit classes get blasted with emails ad announcements about the events, so they can't say they dont -know-.

is it the workload? i mean, i manage to do school, work and do this shit...why can't other people? why won't other people?
is it the priorities?
or do they really just not care

there are biases on both sides, tulane kids are snobby towards loyola. honestly, on the whole i like the loyola kids a lot better. alot alot.

not saying that i don't like the tulane kids i know, but as a head of a group..i fucking hate tulane students. hard core. my life would be so much easier and enjoyable if i didn't feel like i was kicking a dead horse in trying to get people to be interested. maybe thats just my own personal problem

but really i don't know why its the way it is, but it makes me sad that we're living up to the stereotype for whatever reason.
because I want my peers to care. about anything at all. but fucking care.
