"Rocks fall everyone dies..."

fun weekend, and honestly not a bad way to spend my bday weekend, though exhausting.
I had a mandatory school trip to the Bay of Naples. Saturday we hit Pompeii and Boscoreale and then on Sunday we went to Herculaneum and climbed Vesuvius.
Fun times for sure. Jaya did a day trip through the school on sunday so she went to Pompeii and did Vesuvius as well and thats where the quote came from. some girl apparently asked that when they were looking into the crater. she did correct herself pretty hurriedly saying "i mean by, like, falling off or something", but it was hilarious nonetheless

and it was a blast. so it was a while ago, but here i am now. mrph.
takes me long enough

so we meet at 7am and are off by 8ish i think. if a little before then. kinda sleep and read on teh bus ride. we hit a rest stop and i get weird flavored pringles that were fantastic and cookies taht were how i survived the day. walking is hungry work
we get to pompeii and our professor takes us around. long day to be sure. we got there at about 10 and walked around til like 2, iwith a 20 minute lunch break. so much awesome stuff. i still love the city. it rained so that wasnt fun, but it was good to hang out with friends and get to chill with our professor.
the forum area is always cool. some of the plaster casts still freak me out becasue you can see bone sticking out from plaster and gah...dead people. i know ill have to learn to deal with it but in a place like this it tugs at my heartstrings more than anythign else.
the brothel was probably the most hilarious thing. pictures on the walls depicting postiions and such. its been posed that it was like a menu where you point to what you want and thats what you get, but its most likely not the case. in any event, we compared it to a McDonalds "number 2, no sauce!" as andrew said. faaaantastic.
just walking teh streets was awesome. id love to do a dig here someday.

after pompeii we went to boscoreale, which was an agricultural villa. lots of wine storage and olive oil storage. and coooool things like bed frames and fish hooks to see
yay old stuff!

we spent the night in sorrento. beautiful tourist town. had the worst pizza of my life there, which is sad. i was in the bay of naples! home of pizza!
very tragic.
but we wandered around and went to bed pretty late. i went up early and got to talk to jess so that was awesome, but apparenlty some of the other kids went drinking with the professors.
i cant believe i missed that.

next morning we were up and out early to get to herculaneum. we climbed vesuvius first. i am so out of shape its not even funnny. oh well. gravely and a bit difficult. my knees hated me, but beautiful view of the bay so totally worth it.
then we went to herculaneum and it was AWESOME
not much is uncovered sicne most of the city is covered by the modern city of Ercolano, but still...sooooo cool. got some awesome pictures here. im using a few in my photo project. w00 multitasking

then we went home. and there were a chester and matt schwartz waiting for us. and they stayed for a week and were absolutely fantastic.
it was very sad when they left. it was both my and matt schwartz bdays that week so we had some good dinners, more than a few good laughs. and yeah.
i love people.
