and hills. many hills.
sunday jaya and i went on a day trip through school to the Tuscano region. we visited Montepulciano and Pienza. see now that the names are there i wont forget them later, like ive had a tendency to do. i think jaya might kill me for asking so often. oh well. in stone they are!
got up at 630am..an ungodly hour if there ever was one. threw back some coffee (liberally sugared of course) and grabbed and apple and went on the bus. i napped on the bus very little. which was very sad because much tired i was. and so was jaya. also note to self: carry baggy of goldfish around constantly in case jaya gets cranky/homicidal because shes just hungry.
now that i know that i will no longer fear for my head or fingers.
actually it wasnt that bad, and i should really give her some slack on it. sorry jaya i love you!
so yaeh started off the day at this restaurant in montepulciano which is owned by this grandmother and her like 18 grandkids. its this farm that makes -everything- they serve. from pasta to sauce to wine to cheese to olive oil to salami. they got teh goats, the vinyards..everything. really really good everything too. yum. we got to tour the wine cellar and such as well. very cool

then off to the actual city of montepulciano, where we went to another wine cellar that had subterranean cellar and oh man was that cool. part of a midieval city and there was an etruscan tomb..which really are everywhere here but still..very cool. more good wine and bread and then wandering! hilly quiet city. beautiful yes, quiet oh yes, and while gorgeous and quaint i could never EVER live there

or Pienza for that matter. again another cute little hill top town. again quiet and quaint and really just lovely. but i think id go insane. maybe could live there for a summer. as long as i had a fantastic library and wine cellar attached. and internet. definitely.

but it was cute. the church in the center of town was...beautiful. even the tiny chapels in the tiny towns seem to hold so much more wonder and beauty and awe than any others ive seen in the states. a very small church. 5 old women sat on old darkwood benches saying prayers outloud together quietly. i slipped into a pew a few behind them and just sat, focusing on the stained glass seated above the plain heavy oak table that held a cross flanked on either side by two lit white candles. quiet serene and really...just restful and beautiful. it was good for the heart. places like that are always good for the heart. be it a church or an ancient temple with just the right lighting and lack of sound. theres a heart, a heat, a love and a hope there that just isnt captured in other places.

then we rode home. jaya and i listened to good poetry and music and giggled alot, much to tims dismay. i think we scare him when we do that too much, like he thinks were plotting his downfall or something. silly boy.
in short: we rock
ciao
